After four years of war, the conflict in Syria remains stagnant without a possible solution in the short-term. The “predominance” of the principle of the responsibility to protect is in jeopardy, and its position in the international normative structure seems to be far from being “internalized”. In our view, the intervention in Libya in 2011 displayed a series of effects that, until now, have been projected on the Syrian case. Undoubtedly, these effects help us understand the current role of the doctrine of R2P.
