The Japanese foreign policy has suffered a series of changes since Shinzo Abe is in power, the driver of this change has been the rise of the People's Republic of China that threatens to project its hegemony over the continent. This fact has forced Japan to adopt a more proactive policy in Asia and, especially, in Southeast Asia. One of the countries where the Japanese presence is felt the most is Myanmar where Japan has an influence that goes back to the Second World War. The Japanese policy aims to balance the influence that China has acquired in the last decades.
