Missile defense represents currently one of NATO’s priorities. Though its development within NATO framework is led mainly by US, other nations may integrate their defensive systems in the structure under progress and contribute to collective defense on this field.
Spain has systems which can be integrated in the allied missile defense architecture. The potential contribution by Spanish Army, whose means include a PATRIOT battery with a real though limited ballistic missile capability, must be considered as a confirmation of Spanish availability and commitment with collective defense and as an opportunity to develop this antiaircraft system up to its optimal operational capability.
