New resolution (S2218/2015) on Western Sahara (DIEEEO96-2015)

The Security Council at its 7435th meeting, hold on April, 28th 2015, has adopted a new resolution (S2218/2015) on Western Sahara. During previous weeks (even months), both parties and/or their allies/supporters, have been truly actives: exchange of letters, diplomat activities/exchanges, extensive media exposure,...).
The annual report of General Secretary on the situation in Western Sahara was submitted on April 10th to the Council. After intensive deliberations and discussions not exempt from controversy, the Security Council unanimously approved a new Resolution (S/2015/246) extending MINURSO mandate for one year without substantial changes.
However, this can be the last “No-change UN resolution”, due to geopolitical changes in the region. The fourteenth anniversary could be celebrated with significant advances towards to a political solution.
