Asia-Pacific

The Asia-Pacific region is at the centre of the geopolitical shift that heralds the world to come. Some of its large countries – China in particular – are becoming consolidated as poles of influence in the emerging international community and are set to become key elements in the new strategic landscape. The focal points of tension in Afghanistan, Pakistan and North Korea and those linked to China’s territorial claims affect the whole international community. At the same time, the economic growth of large countries like China and India, which have also become significant actors in Africa or Latin America, is a stability factor. (NSS 2103)
