Strategic communication (DIEEEO64-2016)

A right crisis communication is still a pending subject for many political institutions, due to the uncertainties and pressure that come with the situation. This is emphasized in the event of a terrorist attack, when the time for action is shorter. There is also a direct connection between the crisis communication and the popularity of a leader, reflected in the increasing political support if the message strategy has been accurate.

After the terrorist attacks of January and November 2015 in Paris, the French President François Hollande acted carefully, appealing to unity, and showed that a crisis can be solved positively at a political, social and also communicative level. The style of the messages changed after each attack; nevertheless, in all of them a certain style of leadership, that had an effect in his popularity ratings, was noticed.
