Sendero Luminoso: historical evolution and current relevance (DIEEEO34-2017)

Sendero Luminoso is a terrorist group located in Peru that has developed an armed struggle since the 1980s. After its main leader – Camarada Gonzalo –was captured in 1992, the organization suffered a major setback from which it is still recovering. Since then, the high-capacities well-organized guerrilla of the past has weakened due to many internal divisions that drove it close to extinction. Nevertheless, the fact that it is spreading throughout universities and that many of its members have already served their sentences are reasons to worry about a possible re-emergence.
