The phenomenon of the maritime piracy has turned into a global worry for the safety that affects principally to the regions of the Indian western ocean, the sea of south of China and western Africa. The piracy in Nigeria already was a worry before the "boom" of the phenomenon in Somalia in 2008, nevertheless the overvaluation of the phenomenon in the gulf of Guinea owes to his comparison with the effects that it produced on the coasts of Eastern Africa. The search of effective solutions needs to put the phenomenon in a correct context in accordance with to the regional characteristics.
