The historical relationship between Japan and Korea is marked by its proximity, by the economic and cultural influence and, unfortunately, by a history of invasions. This relationship has been poisoned by the memories of the Japanese rule over Korea that lasted more than three decades and whose effects continue to be felt 70 years after in a series of disputes. In the last years, Japan-South Korea relations have worsened due to the actions of both Governments. Japan's neighbors have been alarmed because of a possible reassessment of its post-war foreign policy after Shinzo Abe came to power. Nonetheless, the last agreements open the door to a normalized relation.
