The World Energy Outlook 2012, published by the International Energy Agency, confirmed the U.S. expectations which announced that this country would reach the energetic self-reliance in the year 2035 by means of fracking and the exploitation of unconventional hydrocarbons. Therefore, this article analyses to what extent the mentioned energetic achievement will enable a shift in the American geostrategic interests to focus on the Asia-Pacific region instead of the Middle East. For this purpose, a structural prospective analysis will be used, studying 22 different variables apart from energy and determining the most influential ones on the geostrategic interests of the United States.
