In this paper first describes the situation of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in Spain. During 2012 RES shows a figure close to 16 % of final energy in accordance with Directive 2009 /28. In the case of electricity this value reached 29.1 % with a strong contribution from wind energy (16%) and significant contributions of solar technologies (photovoltaic and solar thermal energy).
The support scheme for RES in Spain is based in a Feed in Tariff (FIT) scheme, the guaranteed access to the electricity grid and national plans and objectives for the RES.
The last Legislative changes motivated by the urgency of solving the problem of the “tariff deficit” and the economic and financial crisis are included.
Finally, the consequences of these legislative changes that implies a strong reduction in investment in RES and a risk of losing an important industrial sector are described.
